Studied is the mesoscale behavior of plastic deformation and fracture of weld joints for austenic steels. Large-scale rotational modes of deformation in heat affected zones are identified with the first stage of formation of band structures; it is related to the “traveling neck” phenomenon in the base metal. A series of spatially developing mixing layers are simulated using the large eddy simulation (LES) technique. A hyperbolic tangent function and data derived from boundary layer simulations are used to generate the inflow condition, and their effects on the flow are compared. The simulations are performed in both two and three dimensions. In two‐dimensional simulations, both types of inflow conditions produce a layer that grows through successive pairings of Kelvin–Helmholtz (K–H) vortices, but the composition ratio is lower for the hyperbolic tangent inflow simulations. The two‐dimensional simulations do not undergo a transition to turbulence. The three‐dimensional simulations produce a transition to turbulence, and coherent structures are found in the post‐transition region of the flow. The composition ratio of the three‐dimensional layers is reduced in comparison to the counterpart two‐dimensional runs. The mechanisms of growth are investigated in each type of simulation, and amalgamative pairing interactions are found in the pre‐transition region of the three‐dimensional simulations, and throughout the entire computational domain of those carried out in two‐dimensions. The structures beyond the post‐transition region of the three‐dimensional simulations appear to behave in a much different manner to their pre‐transition cousins, with no pairing‐type interactions observed in the turbulent flow. In order to accurately simulate spatially developing mixing layers, it is postulated that the inflow conditions must closely correspond to the conditions present in the reference experiment. This work investigates the structure of a diffusion flame in terms of lengthscales, scalar dissipation, and flame orientation by using large eddy simulation. This has been performed for a turbulent, non-premixed, piloted methane/air jet flame (Flame D) at a Reynolds-number of 22,400. A steady flamelet model, which was represented by artificial neural networks, yields species mass fractions, density, and viscosity as a function of the mixture fraction. This will be shown to suffice to simulate such flames. To allow to examine scalar dissipation, a grid of 1.97 × 106 nodes was applied that resolves more than 75% of the turbulent kinetic energy. The accuracy of the results is assessed by varying the grid-resolution and by comparison to experimental data by Barlow, Frank, Karpetis, Schneider (Sandia, Darmstadt), and others. The numerical procedure solves the filtered, incompressible transport equations for mass, momentum, and mixture fraction. For subgrid closure, an eddy viscosity/diffusivity approach is applied, relying on the dynamic Germano model. Artificial turbulent inflow velocities were generated to feature proper one- and two-point statistics. The results obtained for both the one- and two-point statistics were found in good agreement to the experimental data. The PDF of the flame orientation shows the tilting of the flame fronts towards the centerline. Finally, the steady flamelet approach was found to be sufficient for this type of flame unless slowly reacting species are of interest.  相似文献

Level-set G-equation and stationary flamelet chemistry are used in large eddy simulation of a propane/air premixed turbulent flame stabilized by a bluff body. The aim was to study the interaction between the flame front and turbulent eddies, and in particular to examine the effect of sub-grid scale (SGS) eddies on the wrinkling of the flame surface. The results indicated that the two types of turbulence eddies—the resolved large scale eddies and the unresolved SGS eddies—have different effects on the flame. The fluctuation of the flame surface, which is responsible for the broadening of the time averaged mean flame brush by turbulence, depends on the large resolved turbulence eddies. Time averaged mean flow velocity, temperature, and major species concentrations mainly depend on the large scale resolved eddies. The unresolved SGS eddies contribute to the wrinkling at the SGS level and play an important role in the enhancement of the propagation speed of the resolved flame front. In addition, the spatially filtered intermediate species, such as radicals, and the spatially filtered reaction rates strongly depend on the small SGS eddies. The asymptotic behavior of flame wrinkling by the SGS eddies, with respect to the decrease in filter size and grid size, is investigated further using a simplified level-set equation in a model shear flow. It is shown that to minimize the influence of the SGS eddies, fine grid and filter size may have to be used.  相似文献

Mesoscale flame propagation and extinction of premixed flames in channels are investigated theoretically and experimentally. Emphasis is placed on the effect of wall heat loss and the wall–flame interaction via heat recirculation. At first, an analytical solution of flame speed in mesoscale channels is obtained. The results showed that channel width, flow velocity, and wall thermal properties have dramatic effects on the flame propagation and lead to multiple flame regimes and extinction limits. With the decrease in channel width, there exist two distinct flame regimes, a fast burning regime and a slow burning regime. The existence of the new flame regime and its extended flammability limit render the classical quenching diameter inapplicable. Furthermore, the results showed that at optimum conditions of flow velocity and wall thermal properties, mesoscale flames can propagate faster than the adiabatic flame. Second, numerical simulation with detailed chemistry demonstrated the existence of multiple flame regimes. The results also showed that there is a non-linear dependence of the flame speed on equivalence ratio. Moreover, it is shown that the Nusselt number has a significant impact on this non-linear dependence. Finally, the non-linear dependence of flame speed on equivalence ratio for both flame regimes is measured using a C3H8–air mixture. The results are in good agreement with the theory and numerical simulation.  相似文献

We formulate a subgrid eddy viscosity method for solving the steady‐state incompressible flow problem. The eddy viscosity does not act on the large flow structures. 采用二阶全展开ETG有限元与大涡模拟(LES)相结合的算法,对120-20-35-3型船用气水分离器惯性级在不同雷诺数条下的流动进行了模拟,通过其中一组雷诺数条件下计算所得该实验件阻力系数与物理实验所得阻力系数相比较,确定出该雷诺数条件下采用大涡模拟时所需的亚格子应力模型常数,将该常数带入其它各组雷诺数条件下的计算中,并将计算结果与相同条件下的物理实验结果相比较,证实了该常数的通用性。该常数一经确定,对各雷诺数条件下的流场进行分析,结果反映出采用二阶全展开ETG有限元与大涡模拟(LES)相结合的算法可以捕捉到非常丰富的涡系及涡动的时变过程。在流场分析的基础上本文计算了该实验件内的能耗场,计算结果表明实验件内的能耗主要集中在大涡丰富的区段内。  相似文献

本文将汽车绕流模块化为各典型局部流动,通过常用湍流模型对各典型局部流动进行数值模拟,结果验证了湍流模型对转捩的捕捉能力是准确模拟汽车绕流的关键. 在分析汽车绕流分离及转捩机理的基础上,优化了稳态和瞬态求解方法,改进了湍流模型对转捩的预测能力,进而提高了湍流模型在汽车流场模拟上的精度. 针对汽车绕流的稳态问题,将流线曲率因子及 响应阈值引入 LRN $k$-$\varepsilon $ (low Reynolds number $k$-$\varepsilon $) 模型,获得了一种能够更准确预 测转捩的改进低雷诺数湍流模型 (modified LRN $k$-$\varepsilon $),改善了原模型对湍流耗散率的过强依赖性及全应力发展预测不足等问题;针对汽车绕流瞬态求解,通过分析 RANS/LES 混合湍流模型的构造思想及特点,引入约束大涡模拟方法,结合本文提出的改进的 LRN $k$-$\varepsilon $ 湍流模型,提出了一种能准确捕捉转捩现象 的转捩 LRN CLES 模型. 分别将改进的模型用于某实车外流场和风振噪声仿真中,通过 Ansys Fluent 求解器计算,并将计算结果与常用湍流模型的仿真结果、HD-2 风洞试验结果和实车道路实验结果进行对比,表明改进后的湍流模型能够更准确模拟复杂实车的稳态和瞬态特性,为汽车气动特性的研究提供了可靠理论依据及有效数值解决方法.  相似文献

The present work concerns the study of the radial distribution of eddy viscosity and mixing length and their dependence upon the Reynolds number and the concentration of the solid phase in a non-Newtonian flow of a suspension of solid particles in a gas. The investigated systems have a pseudoplastic character and the deviation from Newtonian behaviour increases with an increase in the concentration of the dispersed phase. Relations are presented for the eddy viscosity and mixing length in the flow of pseudoplastic fluids. From the analysis of results it follows that the mixing length and eddy viscosity increases with an increase in the Reynolds number. In contrast, an increase in the concentration of the solid phase and consequently of the pseudoplasticity causes a decrease in the investigated quantities. The radial distribution of the mixing length and the eddy viscosity is characterized by a maximum, after which the investigated quantities vary only slightly. This enables the area of the core of the turbulent flow to be defined.
